Weekend Highlights: November 14-16, 2025

Southern Christmas Show

It’s that time again! Head to the Park Expo & Conference Center for the opening weekend of the Southern Christmas Show, running through November 25. Celebrating its 58th year, this largest Christmas show in the country will get you into the festive spirit with over 400 vendors offering holiday gifts, décor, art, food, and more. Many local artisans are featured, inspiring your own holiday decorating. Admission is $20 for adults and $12 for children aged 6 to 12.

Charlotte Marathon

Lace up your running shoes for one of the Queen City’s largest races! The Novant Health Charlotte Marathon returns for its 21st year on Saturday, November 15, starting at 7:20 a.m. on S Tryon Street. Runners of all experience levels can participate in the Chick-Fil-A 5K, the half marathon, or the full marathon, which may qualify participants for the Boston Marathon. Funds raised benefit Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. Registration is $140 for the half marathon and $50 for the 5K.

The Geekery Market

No matter your fandom, you’re welcome at The Geekery Market this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cabarrus Arena. This isn’t your typical comic convention, featuring dozens of artists selling unique, one-of-a-kind “geeky” merchandise. You’ll also find LEGOs, Nerf sword demos, caricatures, board games, and plenty of geeky music. Admission is free, though a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank is requested.

Romanian-American Festival

Experience the first-ever Romanian-American Cultural Festival this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stumptown Park in Matthews. Immerse yourself in the rich cultures and traditions of Romanian-Americans with live music, dance performances, and authentic street food and desserts. Explore the market with over 60 artisan and lifestyle vendors. Admission is free for all.

LangTree Lake Norman Tree Lighting Celebration

The holidays arrive in Lake Norman this Saturday, November 15, at 5 p.m. with a special tree lighting ceremony at 401 Langtree Road, Mooresville. Get ready to light the impressive 40-foot tree with a festive evening packed with family fun. Meet Santa and drop off your wish list at the North Pole Post Office. Celebration of Lights & Tree Lighting Ceremony

Kannapolis kicks off its Christmas festivities this Saturday, November 15, at 6 p.m. at Village Park with the Celebration of Lights and a special tree lighting ceremony. Once the switch is flipped, fireworks will light up the sky. Then, wander through thousands of twinkling lights, meet Santa for pictures, make holiday crafts, or enjoy s’mores around the fire pit. Local vendors and artisans will also be available for some holiday shopping. Admission is free.

NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet

A cherished Christmas tradition, the NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet, embarks on its 33rd tour this Saturday, November 15, at 8 p.m. at Ovens Auditorium. Experience the wonder of this timeless classic brought to life on stage by professional dancers from around the world, including Ukraine, Japan, and Italy. Enjoy breathtaking performances set to Broadway-style sets, costumes, and music. Children from Charlotte’s own Legacy Dance Company will also join the cast. Tickets start at $41.50.

Rural Hill Sheepdog Trials & Dog Festival

If you’ve ever wanted to witness the incredible skill of sheepdogs in action, this is the festival for you! Head to Rural Hill at 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville, on Saturday and Sunday, November 15-16. Watch expert herding dogs perform in a series of challenges, see other dogs demonstrate exciting tricks, and learn from trainers. You can even bring your own dogs for an afternoon of socializing. Single-day adult tickets start at $18.31, and kids aged 5-13 start at $9.91.

“The Polar Express” Train Ride

All aboard The Polar Express! Step into a magical journey as the animated classic comes to life at the NC Transportation Museum on select weekends, including this one. On your way to the North Pole, sip hot chocolate, enjoy cookies, listen to a reading of the story, and hear music from the movie. At the North Pole, Santa will present the first gift of Christmas. Passengers are encouraged to wear their pajamas for this enchanting experience. Tickets start at $43.25.
